Change is Underway
UPDATE: As of January 14@4:58 AM, Building the Ergonomic Guitar is now online. eLUTHERIE.org is also online.
Over the next few days, you’ll see the start of this site’s next transformation. Readers will recall last February when the site migrated from Building the Ergonomic Guitar (BTEG) to eLUTHERIE.org. Things are about to change as Rick and I work toward establishing both as independent sites.
Why? Because BTEG and eLUTHERIE.org ultimately have different missions. BTEG will return as the enthusiast oriented site bringing news about ergo designs to guitar and bass players. eLUTHERIE.org will sharpen its focus teaching about instrument design innovation with an eye toward fellow instrument builders – both professional and amateur.
In the process, our current roles will change. Rick will assume full editorial control of eLUTHERIE.org and I will do the same for BTEG bringing our respective voices to each site.
So what’s next? I’ll spare you the techie details, but it boils down to this – in the next few days, eLUTHERIE will redirect to BTEG while eLUTHERIE is prepped to come online as an independent site. In the interim, all existing articles will remain on BTEG. Once eLUTHERIE.org is ready to launch, select content will be moved to the new eLUTHERIE.org.
The end result will be two great complementary sites providing you the information and news you seek. Wish us luck and stay tuned!

The web is a wild frontier, and we’ve learned invaluable lessons over this past year. I’m fortunate to have a partner as skilled and dedicated as you. Thanks for everything you’ve done (and are doing).

Here’s to 2010 & v.2.0…
Hear, hear! 2010 will indeed be an exciting year for both BTEG and eLUTHERIE – with lots of opportunity to collaborate and help spread the word even further.
Makes perfect sense to me!
Rob — great to see you back! Hope all is well.
Rick — any progress/updates on the Build Project??
Peace,
Marc
Glad to be back and all is indeed well!
Marc — seismic events are happening, mostly behind the scenes. For initial beta testing we’ve selected seven luthiers to participate. Each of them is highly qualified, highly motivated, and brings excellent skills to the process. I am VERY excited to see what they create.
Not including me, our group is as follows:
Chris Forsage — 7 string (#26 Gold w/multi-scale individual bridge)
Dreamer Guitarworks (Celso Freire) — 7 string (#30 Red w/multi-scale individual bridge)
Ralph Novak — 6 string (#40 Hardcoat Clear w/multi-scale individual bridge)
Ram Guitars — 6 string (#26 Gold w/single plate bridge)
Bill Wilkat — 6 string (#22 Peach w/single plate bridge)
Rick Canton — 6 string (#16 Turqouise w/single plate bridge)
Daniel Hehnke — 6 string (#36 Black w/multi-scale individual bridge)
NOTE: Many of the instruments being bult will be offered for sale, so if you see your favorite luthier on the list, contact him and get involved early in the design process. Colors refer to the Toone & Townsend website options: http://www.toone-townsend.com/colors.html
All except Daniel Hehnke are professional luthiers. Daniel is an aerospace engineer and amateur luthier who will represent the DIY builder demographic. His will give us balanced feedback from an alternate perspectives.
Our beta group will be receiving their hardware during the next two weeks or so, depending upon location and shipping times.
PS: Rob, BTEG is looking great. I’ve got eLUTHERIE.org nearly ready for transition.
Well, hi there again!
BAck from south east asia, back to reality. Snow, cold, windy, stormy, and whatnot. What else to do but cruising the net and find innovations in stringed instruments?
All this sounds VERY promising. However, I wanted to put in one cent into ergonomic pick that was discussed some years ago. I found this site.

Elaborate pick holder design, for when you hold a pick, singer songwriter stuff, when you write down your things you don’t need to lose the pick.
Mats – Always good to hear from you.
Very cool link. Interesting little device.
For those curious about the previous ergo pick discussion, here’s the article: Big Rock Guitar Picks.
