Building The Ergonomic Guitar’s New Home!

Welcome! Building the Ergonomic Guitar is now on its own hosted domain at https://buildingtheergonomicguitar.com! Please take a moment to update your bookmarks to reflect the change. Email subscribers need not take action – your subscription has been updated and you should start receiving updates with this post.

With the move to the WordPress blogging engine, Building the Ergonomic Guitar Blog stands poised to cover guitar making, ergonomics and guitar design with a degree of flexibility and power it could never hope to achieve on its old Blogger home. You will see some of this in the new commenting capabilities, the Top Commentators blog roll that rewards reader for commenting by linking back to their respective web sites, the new contact form, the improved Archives capabilities and the improved site navigation.

In addition, I’ve been able to take advantage of some interesting redirect scripts which forward not only from old main site page to new main site page but from old site article URL to new site article URL. For example, if you happen to have saved a link to an article on the old site, clicking it will take you to its corresponding article on the new site. The same goes with any Google Search indexed articles on the old site. Clicking on these will take you to the corresponding article on the new site. I wanted to make the transition as painless as possible but I do encourage you to update to the new site’s links. This will help the new site establish itself with the various search engines and at some point, the old site will ride off into the sunset. Thanks go out to Jotsheet for their article Moving from Blogger to WordPress: Best Practices.

Behind the scenes, Building the Ergonomic Guitar is hosted by Bluehost.com. Although its early in our relationship, I have so far been impressed by their features and their technical support which includes voice, email and chat. I’ve had the opportunity to use their technical support several times during my initial ramp up and I’ve been impressed every time. Check out Bluehost’s services – they are a WordPress.org recommended host.

Of course, with a change of this magnitude, the site design has undergone another revision which I hope you enjoy. I’ve tried to focus on a clean look and took this opportunity to go to a 3 column format and a 1024px layout. With the vast majority of readers using at least a 1024px screen resolution, it made sense to make better use of available screen real estate.

And now for a few thanks. To start with, I’d like to thank my readers for Building the Ergonomic Guitar’s success. Your participation and encouragement is greatly appreciated. Please keep your comments and suggestions coming! I also have to thank my wonderful wife, Sakinah. Once again, she has demonstrated the patience of a saint dealing with my long hours re-working the blog. She has been nothing but encouraging and supportive throughout. None of this would be possible without her.

And, that’s it for now. Now its time to get back to the business of guitar making, ergonomics and guitar design at Building the Ergonomic Guitar!

  1. I like the new design. Congratulations on making the jump from blogger; I’m sure you’ll enjoy all of the extra options that WordPress offers.

  2. Sorry for the double comment, but I wanted to let you know that I got a PHP error message when I posted my comment (looks like it might be related to the bad behavior plugin).

    1. Thanks you for the comments on the design and thanks for the heads up. I expect that there will be a few bugs to work out – WordPress’ greater power comes with some additional complexity.

  3. Nice work on the new site. I’ve updated the link to TOONE GUITARS so we’ve still got each other in a stranglehold.

    Heh.

Smart move getting the .com…I expect this site to grow and develop substantially in the years to come. It’s a great (and necessary) topic.

I’m viewing via Mac/Safari, and so far all’s well.

    1. Thanks Rick! I’m excited over all the possibilities opened up by this move. There are all sorts of things I can now implement that wouldn’t have been possible under the old Blogger environment – stuff like these super cool threaded comments I can now support. 🙂

  4. Great Stuff!

I’ve been with the blog since the beginning, and I’m looking forward to being with it for a good long time.

    Congrats, Robert.

    1. Thanks Greg! You’ve been a great supporter throughout and, as always, I look forward to your comments and suggestions.
